Other than food, water, heat sources and personal protection, what other items would be absolutely necessary that could be bought totaling $1,000 or less? I'm thinking about people who might be light on cash but who want to get what will help them the most on a tight budget.

So you already have the first 4 things covered? If shelter is under heat source, and firearms under personal protection, then you have your bases covered damn near. Maybe some first aid type items, a few key books to read so you dont go stir crazy. More of the items you listed.

Seeds, but that won't take a big chunk. Tools that don't need electricity. Enough solar of whatever type to power LED headlamps, and headlamps. Any prescription meds you need plus some antibiotics in case of some infection. You'll have lots left after that. You might choose to get enough solar to keep your fridge and freezer running.

Then, with whathever is left, I would recommend you buy as many silver Eagles as you can.

I've got dozens of packets and various wild handfuls of seeds of all kinds stashed away in Mason jars in a dark place--tomatoes, carrots, peppers, leafy vegetables (spinach, mustard greens), tobacco (grow yer own and sell it!), dandelion...any other seeds I should get?

Silver Eagles are good but the premiums are a bit high for my liking. I've been picking up junk silver wherever I've been able to find it, though.

And the bug-out bag is full at all times!

How about plenty of good sturdy clothes and shoes/boots, extra socks and underwear. Cloth handkerchiefs and cloth feminine hygiene products if applicable, or cloth baby diapers if that is a possible issue.

Basic tools - garden hoes, axes, pails, etc.

Kerosene lanterns and fuel, candles, matches, etc. Flashlights and batteries.

Will sanitation be an issue? A porta-potty and garbage bags.

Large stainless steel stock pots and a couple of good cast irons pans and dutch oven.

for everyone in your group over age 15,
they should have a firearm available to them
even if it's only a .22 rifle for the young ones
